‘Tis the season to be jolly! Fa la la la la, la la la la!’ It is almost that time of the year! Are you ready with your set of gifts, plans, traditions, ornaments, food menus, ugly sweaters, et al? Well amid the cheer and warmth, our Santa fam is surely feeling some pressure about the most important task at their hand, ‘Gift Distribution’!
We saw in our previous two posts, of this new Christmas Special Series, how Maplytics within Dynamics 365 CRM could turn out to be a perfect tool in wisely distributing the gifting territories among Santa’s elves and also routing optimized travel routes for them to hand deliver all the gifts accurately and in time! No matter how hard one plans, things are bound to hit a roadblock according to the law of the Universe. On the day of gift delivery, it could happen that an elf realizes he has forgotten to pack a gift or two. Or it could turn out that he has damaged a gift during transit. If such is the case, the elf may not have sufficient time to fly back to the North Pole and collect the forgotten gifts or find a better replacement for the damaged one.
In this situation, the Elf after taking permission from Santa could try reaching out to a nearest gift shop or toy shop within his vicinity and manage a gift on urgent basis. Maplytics feature of Point of Interest (POI) Location could help in the same. The Elf could mark his current location in Maplytics using the app on his mobile device and search for gift/ toy shops nearby. The nearest, on-duty one could be approached and articles could be selected for gifting.
Another important application of POI Location is that the nearest coffee shops, breakfast places, grasslands, water facilities too could be searched and plotted over the map for the convenience of the Elf. In case he’s tired, he could refresh himself at these places. The fresh grass from the nearby grasslands too could be traced to satisfy the hunger of his hungry reindeers.
It often happens that our records don’t turn out to be foolproof and certain. Some are often missed out. Thus, if a few people are missed out from the gifting list, the elves might spot them while being on their scheduled routes. They could find many such gift receivers using the Along the Route feature and include them in their dispatch list!
The ad-hoc gifts could be easily managed using the gift shops plotted using the POI Location feature. Well, the idea of Santa’s elves using Mobile devices and roaming around buying things from local gift store might sound too overwhelming. But the child in you shall readily want to relate to it! Every idea sounds funny only until it has been implemented. Why just the Santa factory, Maplytics and its eventful features can find a place in various walks of life!
